2024 started off with one of the, now regular, monthly village walks in January. Only an intrepid few took part (5), but well done to them for braving the winter weather !
The usual well-attended functions took place again this year : Mayor's Good Wishes, "Galette des Rois" cake tasting in January, Easter egg hunt, the Neighbours' Get-Together and the Feu de Saint-Jean in June, the traditional August Perigordine evening, (with 5-course meal, music and dancing), Halloween for the children, Beaujoulais Nouveau and the ever-popular Choucroûte meal in the village hall at the end of November. The year will be rounded off with the traditional Christmas drink at the village hall in December.
Café Solidaire - On the first Wednesday of each month, in the village hall, villagers get together at the "Café Solidaire". It is an opportunity to meet up for cakes/refreshments, simply have a chat and spend a pleasant afternoon, play cards/board games, or knit. All welcome. The December café solidaire featured a creative workshop, run by Flavia Pecquet. Many thanks to her for the initiative.
The major walking event of the year, the 15th Ronde des Villages, held in mid-October, was again a great success for the area as a whole and for the village of Simeyrols. Volunteers turned out in force to provide a warm welcome for over 4000 walkers from many different areas. Now in its 9th year for Simeyrols, this has become a big annual feature and is a wonderful way to appreciate the local area.
This brief overview of the events that have taken place in the village will, hopefully, provide a taste of the real sense of community that there is in Simeyrols. There is always a very good turn-out for social events. Long may it continue !
